A version of the song ¡®Dokdo Is Our Land¡¯ performed in various languages from around the world is attracting attention on YouTube.
Videos featuring foreigners singing the lyrics of ¡®Dokdo Is Our Land¡¯ in English and Spanish, as well as Chinese, French, Jamaican, Persian, Indonesian, Hebrew, and other languages, have been uploaded to YouTube and are receiving enthusiastic responses from viewers.
Following the first video in English, uploaded on the 20th of last month, the second video in Spanish was uploaded the following day and surpassed several thousand views within a week.
A video of a Latino man, who appears to be a college student, singing ¡®Dokdo Is Our Land¡¯ in Spanish beside a fountain while imitating an idol singer¡¯s dance moves makes viewers smile. At the same time, it generates interest in Dokdo and naturally promotes the fact that Dokdo is Korean territory.
The ¡®Sing Dokdo Is Our Land in Languages from Around the World¡¯ project, titled ¡®Do you know Dokdo?¡¯, is a video series produced by ¡®Simple Touch¡¯ Entertainment, an advertising production and management company operated by a Korean resident of LA, and directed by YKM Film director Young Man Kang.
The series has currently been uploaded to YouTube in a total of 12 languages. A total of 20 videos in 15 languages will be produced, and the producers plan to expand the project to include additional languages in the future.
Simple Touch Entertainment president Jung Heum Park said, ¡°Even if advertisements are placed in The New York Times and we repeatedly declare that ¡®Dokdo Is Our Land¡¯ through events of all sizes, it is difficult for the message to truly reach ordinary people.¡± He added, ¡°We planned the ¡®Sing Dokdo Is Our Land in Languages from Around the World¡¯ video project as a way to raise awareness among people worldwide.¡±
The foreigners singing ¡®Dokdo Is Our Land¡¯ in various languages were selected through open auditions. More than 200 people submitted videos for the first online audition, and 50 of them advanced to the final round. At the second audition, held offline at the end of August, 15 participants were selected for the video production. Although each video is only three to four minutes long, the participants reportedly underwent intensive practice before filming.
Director Young Man Kang, who directed the videos, said, ¡°Rather than promoting Dokdo mainly through arguments and disputes, I wanted to make the message entertaining by using the element of ¡®entertainment¡¯.¡± He added, ¡°Through this approach, we hope to maximize the promotional impact of Dokdo among people around the world.¡±
A Korean organization that viewed the videos reportedly sent invitations to visit Dokdo to all the foreigners who participated in the project.
President Jung Heum Park emphasized that they plan to continue producing videos promoting Dokdo, saying, ¡°In addition to the 15 languages already produced, we plan to add languages such as African languages, Mongolian, Hindi, and Filipino. The second audition has already been announced for mid-October.¡±
